BLU & NOTTZ – TITANS IN THE FLESH (ALBUM STREAM)

Blu and Nottz make good on their promise to produce dopeness as their Titans In The Flesh EP is released. Featuring the likes of Torae, Bishop Lamont, Skyzoo, Exile, DJ Revolution and Mickey Factz, it’s certainly worth your time to hit play.

“The EP is themed around Greek and Roman mythology, with our own personal twist,” Blu told Noisey. “Instead, Nottz and I play the Gods and Titans, along with all the lyrical beasts featured on the record. The title means ‘be strong,’ be more than you are, be a God or be a Titan, and run with it!”

ESPN’S THE UNDEFEATED SPOTLIGHTS GANG STARR’S ‘DAILY OPERATION’ ARTWORK

ESPN’s new African American culture website “The Undefeated” recently spotlighted the artwork for Gang Starr’s classic Daily Operation. The site spoke to photographer Matt Gunther about the photo shoot that led to the legendary cover and here are a couple of excerpts.

As happens in the creative process, ideas changed. Soon it was decided that the cover would have a Last Supper theme — as Gang Starr affiliates Group Home and Jeru The Damaja were featured on the project. “We rented an old mansion on Madison Avenue [in New York City] because we … needed a big space,” says Gunther. “We were supposed to shoot during the day … had the venue from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.” Gang Starr and their crew of about 20 didn’t show up until 6 or 7 that night. Label representatives fumed. “We slept during the day while waiting for them,” he said. And when they did arrive — Gunther wasn’t caught off guard by the amount of marijuana smoke and malt liquor that followed the crew into the mansion. “It was,” he says, “a fun, s— show.”

JOE BUDDEN – FREEDOM FREESTYLE [VIDEO]

Joe Budden takes a break from aiming his verbal vitriol at Drake to drop this much needed “Freedom” freestyle that harnesses the anger of the community in the numerous deaths of African Americans at the hand of police. A matching of equally troubling visuals comes as a fresh reminder how much despair there is in the community.

“I was told there was once a world where slaves communicated with each other via music, and tho I wasn’t present for that, the HipHop I fell in love with always encouraged me to do the same (Thank you Public Enemy)…. Let this act as an unfortunate reminder that times change and they don’t. #BlackLivesMatter #YallLivesMatter #OurLivesMatter … I’m afraid to wonder what happens when we as a ppl decide to stop saying it. Some deem us threatening now by sheer design. We are not. We are loving, passionate, cultured and proud, even during unrest. However, with every life viciously and maliciously taken by costumed evil, we grow more and more afraid. What will occur when too many of us are afraid? #IfYouDontValueMyLifeEYEWill #GodHelpUsAll #TheMissionIsGreat” – Joe Budden
