SKYZOO – ST. JAMES LIQUORS

On what would have been The Notorious B.I.G.’s 49th birthday, Skyzoo releases “St. James Liquors” from his forthcoming album All The Brilliant Things that drops on June 11th.

“With ‘St. James Liquors,’ it’s a story of what my neighborhood used to be like, and it uses 13 year old me as a catalyst of these two types of individuals that my friends and I were in awe of: the guys outside and the musicians who represented them,” Skyzoo says of the song. “As a young kid writing rhymes and growing up a block away from the late great Notorious BIG, inspiration was easy to get, as it was literally footsteps away. The tug of war of the guys on the block who were stars and the guys who represented them who were stars, and the irony of them going hand in hand, was something that had my head on a swivel as a teenager. This song breaks down the dichotomy of the two.”

SKYZOO – BED-STUY IS BURNING [VIDEO]

Skyzoo will drop his latest audio venture All the Brilliant Things on June 11th and blesses us with the first video from the album. “Bed-Stuy is Burning” takes a cold hard look at gentrification in Brooklyn.

“Intrigued by the title, I copped it and afterwards I was inspired to write sort of a call and response, speaking on the other side of the fence from what Brian saw being white and living in the Stuy with his family,” said Skyzoo. “As someone who was in the neighborhood before the characters in his story moved in, I wrote the song to be the other end of the spectrum.”

SKYZOO – A SONG FOR FATHERS (PRODUCED BY !LLMIND)

A timely offering from Skyzoo just in time for Father’s Day. With !llmind behind the boards offering a jazzy backdrop, Skyzoo offers words of encouragement for all the fathers out there.

“In our current climate as a people, the reality of families being left without a father is deafening,” he said. “Due to all of the social injustices that are ringing louder than ever, we’re seeing the impact of fathers being stripped away from their loved ones. Although I wrote this record way before our current events began to take place (summer ‘19), the timing is eerily spot on. This is one of my favorite records I’ve ever written, and if it somehow becomes the record I’m most known for down the line, I couldn’t be prouder.”

His new album Milestones is available now.

SKYZOO & PETE ROCK – IT’S ALL GOOD [VIDEO]

Skyzoo and Pete Rock add visuals to the pounce of “It’s All Good” from their forthcoming Retropolitan album.

“The video, directed by Sen Floyd, shows a raw but vibrant scene of the NY that Pete and I know” Skyzoo said to Vibe.  “The graffiti, the color schemes, city folk cutting by in between shots, even the industrial feel that peaks it’s head in the camera at times, all of it, along with the shots of the corners and 22 story buildings that define NY, are what we know of the city. It matches the essence of the song perfectly. One of my favorite videos to date for what it depicts and represents.”

SKYZOO & PETE ROCK – IT’S ALL GOOD

Skyzoo over Chocolate Boy Wonda beats for an entire album? We’re sold! Pete Rock will provide the sonic backdrops for Skyzoo to bless with his brilliant rhymes when the duo drop Retropolitan on September 20. To kick things off, they drop “It’s All Good” that, surprisingly, is a beat that came from Pete Rock’s Illmatic sessions in 1994.

“The crazy thing about this beat is that I made it in ’94,” Pete Rock told Billboard. “This beat is 25 years old. I never retouched it or re-did it. It came out of the SP-1200. This was when I was making ‘The World Is Yours’ and those sessions.”
Hit play and get ready.
