Over the weekend the hip hop community lost one of its most underrated and unappreciated legends in Sean Price. Price, who unexpectedly passed away in his sleep at his home in Brooklyn, was 43. When it came to lyrics and a wicked sense of humor, Price always stood strong. From his days as Ruck in Heltah Skeltah to his solo records and numerous show stealing guest spots (who can forget the remarkable Random Axe album), Price is one of those emcees that was never truly appreciated as he should have been. Nevertheless, the man with a poignant sense of humor was a blessing to all hip hop fans and will sorely be missed. Sean Price leaves behind his wife and three children. His latest project, Songs in the Key of Price, is due out later this month. A mural was also erected in Crown Heights to pay homage to Sean P.
Check out Peter Rosenberg’s mix paying homage to the late, great emcee.
Emilio Rojas pays homage to the legendary producer by rocking over two N.W.A. classics in “Straight Outta Compton” and “Express Yourself.”
Chris Rivers and Sheek Louch give the Special Ed classic a reworking.
The name alone is legendary. Hit play and listen to Method Man, The Chef and Inspectah Deck rekindle the flames from two decades ago.
In the midst of the Drake and Meek Mill feud, CyHi The Prynce drops this track that is seemingly a shot at the man that brought him into G.O.O.D. Music, the one and only Kanye West. CyHi appears to be upset that he’s yet to make any noise on the label and completely goes off. But an alarm clock going off could signal that this is nothing more than a dream. Listen to it and you be the judge.
