It is with a heavy heart that we report that Mac Miller has passed away at the age of 26. According to TMZ, Miller was found unconscious in his Los Angeles home from a possible overdose. Miller and his struggles with substance abuse has been a topic for several years, but the rapper had seemingly cleaned up his act.
“Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26,” his family said in a statement. “He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time.”
Miller burst onto the scene in the early 2010s and was recognized for his witty wordplay and refusal to stay inside of the box artistically. What was initially recognized as a party rapper was far more than that as Miller constantly paid homage to the golden era of hip hop and utilized jazz influences in his music.
The Pittsburgh rapper’s final album Swimming was heralded for its experimentation and debuted at #3 on the Billboard charts.
