Black Thought dropped a jewel last night with the Streams of Thought Vol. 1 EP produced by 9th Wonder & The Soul Counsel . It may be only five songs but the verbal ferocity is in full force. If you need convincing, check out the brutal lyrical barrage from Thought and Rapsody on “Dostoyevsky.”
DJ Critical Hype doesn’t f*ck around, does he? After dropping the Kendrick Lamar and Dr. Dre blend tape “The DAMN Chronic,” he’s back at it again putting Drake vocals over 9th Wonder production on “More 9th.” It’s important to note that Drake and 9th Wonder have worked together a few times in the past and the Canadian recognized Little Brother’s Phonte as his favorite rapper once upon a time. So now we get a bunch of Drake songs over 9th Wonder instrumentals and the result is pure dope.
Problem drops the third single from his new project Selfish titled “Top Off” with some assistance from Airplane James and the production courtesy of 9th Wonder.
There are still a steady stream of songs from Sean Price being released a year after his death. “Down With Me” finds Sean P trading bars with Wu-Tang Clan’s Masta Killer over a head nodding 9th Wonder production.
To set the table for Laila’s Wisdom dropping, Rapsody drops an absolute banger off the album with “Power.” The Jamla emcee trades bars with Kendrick Lamar over a ridiculously savage beat from 9th Wonder. There are so many quotables that you’ll have a hard time picking one. Get Laila’s Wisdom, you won’t be disappointed.
PBS’ “The Open Mind” has featured everyone from Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr. to Aloe Black and Bernie Sanders. 9th Wonder shows up for the 30 minute conversation and discusses the Harvard Hip Hop Archive, what it is and the first four albums that are in the catalog that are deemed classics. He also discusses today’s emcee, Jay-Z and much, much more. It’s certainly worth your time.
For those who think that G-Eazy can’t rhyme, think again. The Bay Area talent connects with 9th Wonder and shows his ass on the ultra dope “Maximum.” Whew.
This is extremely random and completely out of nowhere. Back in 2010, 9th Wonder and the Lost Boyz lead emcee Mr. Cheeks joined forces for a project that never saw the light of day, until now. Before hitting play, let 9th Wonder explain where “The Lost Tapes” came from.
