Remember that time DJ Premier linked up with Das EFX to bring back the “Diggedy” style of rhyming after a brief departure on their second album? The result was “Real Hip Hop” and Preemo takes us back to the creation of that song and a little background on how he connected with Das EFX.
DJ Premier explains how reuniting with Guru after four years between projects proved to be challenging as they headed into the Moment of Truth album. The lead single “Royalty” featured K-Ci and Jojo and Preemo explains how they got 1/2 of Jodeci on the album, constructing the beat, how an adult movie star ended up directing a video that ended up being a party in a subway station.
1. The Legion (f. Marvelous Supreme & Lucky Fishburne)–Furious 5 (over Mantronix prod.)
Nas stunned everyone by dropping another album alongside Hit-Boy with Magic on Christmas Eve. If, somehow, you missed it, you need to go ahead and hit play on “Wave Gods” that finds Nasty Nas alongside A$AP Rocky with cuts by DJ Premier. Certified banger.
DJ Premier tells the story of how he ended up with the wrong equipment to create the beat for M.O.P.’s legendary “Brownsville” track. And why did Preemo use those spacey sounds? He explains the inspiration behind that as well in the latest episode of “So Wassup.”
For some people, DJ Premier’s collaboration with Devin The Dude seemed to come out of nowhere. But it really didn’t. Aside from both being from Texas, these two knew each other for a long time. Find out how what was supposed to be a remix for Devin’s album ended up making the final cut on his solo album. Also, listen to Preemo explain how he constructed the beat.
For the final installment of DJ Premier’s singles on Payday Records, the legendary producer connects with 2 Chainz for “Mortgage Free.” Would anybody object to a full project between these two? Probably not.
