Joey Bada$$ unleashes some new music off of his upcoming LP B4.DA.$$ with some assistance behind the boards from Statik Selektah.
Joey Bada$$, Akomplice Clothing and The J Dilla Foundation have joined forces to donate $10,000 worth of musical equipment to Edward R. Murrow High School in NYC. The school is the one Joey Bada$$ attended and it is pretty awesome to see hip hop giving back. Check out the release below and the video above.
The fruits of the collaborative effort between Joey Bada$$, Akomplice Clothing and The J Dilla Foundation manifested in the form of $10,000 worth of musical production equipment donated to Joey’s alma mater, The Edward R. Murrow High School. The three teamed up for a capsule collection and an unreleased track “Two Lips”, of which 100% of the profits were to be donated to youth music programs in Joey and Dilla’s respective hometowns, Brooklyn and Detroit. In the accompanying video, we see Joey and his Pro Era crew return to a hero’s welcome at Murrow, which includes a visit to the hallowed ground on which Pro Era was founded. Watch as Joey walks the halls and reminisces on his high school years. In honor of J Dilla’s legacy, the collaborators set out to give kids a chance to learn how to make the type of music that J Dilla created, innovating the classroom. Akomplice’s dedication to hip-hop culture runs deep, so it’s only fitting they spearheaded a collaboration that bridged two era’s of hip-hop. In the video, we see that the donation will be put to good use through a freshly minted music production program at the school. Detroit will be next to receive their donation. Also, be on the lookout for Joey Bada$$’s upcoming album B4.DA.$$, set to drop January 20th, 2015.
R&R Productions recently linked up with Joey across two countries to capture him for our ‘Evening With’ series. We discuss performing and concert vibes with the Brooklyn wordsmith and capture some footage of a crazy show in Paris, France. Joey discusses his favourite show, why performances are so rewarding and the importance of artists making music for themselves.
Here’s a message from Joey Bada$$….
“P.eace young world this is the Badmon Jozif and I just want to thank all of my supporters and fans for being so patient with me as I finished my first album. The wait is finally almost over and the release date is locked and loaded. After discovering my birthday falls on a Tuesday (the day of the week all albums drop) next year I decided to save the album drop for then (1.20.15). I thought it was the best time to cause a shift. It’s always been a goal of mine to drop a project on my birthday and the premonition has finally come into fruition. The number 120 is very unique and symbolic to me as well. My 1st album on my 20th birthday this was destiny.” – B4.DA.$$ P.eace!
Joey Bada$$, CJ Fly, Kirk Knight and the rest of the Pro Era team travel across the U.S. and give some insight on their tour. There’s a meet & greet, some stage diving, some kung fu, some performances and a couple guys who get kicked out of a show for threatening security. Oh yeah, more kung fu.
