As Ras Kass prepares to finally drop Soul On Ice 2, the Carson emcee pays homage to the living legend LL Cool J alongside Snoop Dogg with a song of the same name.
Ras Kass is closing in on the release of Soul On Ice 2 and applies his lauded verbal gymnastics over a DJ Green Lantern production with “F.L.Y. (F*ck Last Year).”
“F.L.Y. is actually my ode to Prince’s 1999. It’s a Hip-Hop New Year’s song,” Kass told AFH. “The triple-entendre being it’s an acronym for ‘F*ck Last Year’ and ‘FLY,’ as in ‘time flies why you’re having fun.’ Also, in the Hip-Hop lifestyle, you want to dress and act ‘fly.’ It’s wavy.”
Ras Kass will drop the sequel to Soul On Ice (finally!) on July 26th on Mello Music Group nearly a quarter century since he released his seminal debut album. Soul On Ice 2 has an exceptional list of guests ranging from production by Pete Rock and Diamond D to guest spots from Cee-Lo Green and Immortal Technique. To get things going, Razzy delivers the Styles P and Lil Fame assisted banger “Guns & Roses.”
Boston producer B Leafs unites a very interesting lineup of emcees for the politically charged “Reaganomics.” Elzhi, Ras Kass, Large Pro and M-Dot all do their thing. B Leafs album The Horizon drops on January 29th.
We’re proud to premiere Ras Kass’ new joint “Feeling Myself” produced by Omid G from the forthcoming 7” “SOI2 – The Leaks” that will be shipping via Blackhouse Records this month. If you’re wondering what SOI2 means, it’s Soul On Ice 2 and this is one of two joints from the full-length album. SOI2 is near completion and will drop soon. Until then, enjoy this cut and you can preorder the 7″ here.
“SOI2 – The Leaks 7” is limited to 500 copies worldwide and is graced with a watercolor portrait/min-poster of Ras Kass painted by Alex WuKang and gold-embossed seal of authenticity.
Ras Kass, El Gant and J57 drop another video from their self-titled EP in the form of “Go Away.”
The video for Jamo Gang’s “Highway” comes in the form of a sold out live performance at Arlene’s Grocery in NYC with the band Vertigo Drift providing the backing.
The Jamo Gang take this generation of youth back to the 90s where freestyling on the corner was still a thing in the video for “Welcome To The Golden Era.”
In case you haven’t heard, Ras Kass, J57 and El Gant have formed a group called Jamo Gang and have been teasing the release of an EP. Well, the time is now as Ras and El Gant handle the lyrics while J57 is behind the boards on the Jamo Gang EP. Featuring the likes of Big Twins, Snak The Ripper and Shabaam Sahdeeq, the eight track project is available for the low, low price of Free.99. Enjoy it.
Ras Kass, J57 and El Gant will finally drop their Jamo Gang project on 2/2 and as the day draws near, we get a new joint featuring Snak The Ripper titled “The Alter.”
