Top Dawg Entertainment’s Reason might be the label’s best kept secret. The Cali emcee releases a video for the song “Field Nigga” that he regrets is still relevant today despite originally writing the song two years ago.
“I felt I hadn’t done enough so I added the last part of this song and shot this video two days ago,” he said. “This is the best way I know how to give back. I hope this resonates and hits y’all the way it did while I was writing it. I don’t want to argue, I just want an understanding on both sides. We’re tired!”
It’s been a minute since we last heard from Ab Soul so it is good to see him make his presence felt alongside fellow TDE member Reason and Cali’s Boogie on “Trapped In.” From Reason’s upcoming album dropping soon.
“The video is about getting caught up in the system, of a cycle we create for ourselves,” Reason told Lyrical Lemonade. “You’ll notice that everyone is all caught up in their own little pockets and me, ab, and boogie are the only ones going around saying what’s up to the robbers and the drug dealers cause we see what’s going on. You’ll see kids playing basketball cause they think it’s their only way out but then they see a robbery or the murder and now they’re caught in that same cycle.”
