MASTA ACE & DJ TOMO – FORMULA [VIDEO]

DJ Tomo and Masta Ace join forces for a re-imagining of the legendary Goblin’s Theme from the movie Profondo Rosso. The European Producer/DJ/Musician inspired by the original theme, re-worked it into a compact and moody musical dose of urban decay. Furthering that vibe is cold lyrics from Brooklyn emcee great, Masta Ace. The visuals in the video reflect this with graffiti strewn train platforms, soot-stained brick buildings and other visuals from the dawn of hip-hop.

NICKI MINAJ – BARBIE DREAMS [VIDEO]

Forget all the madness surrounding Nicki Minaj and Cardi B and let’s just focus on the music for a moment, shall we? One of the standout tracks from Nicki Minaj’s Queen album comes in the form of “Barbie Dreams,” which pays homage to The Notorious B.I.G.’s track fantasizing of having sexual relations with the women of R&B. Did she do the original justice?

REST IN POWER MAC MILLER

It is with a heavy heart that we report that Mac Miller has passed away at the age of 26. According to TMZ, Miller was found unconscious in his Los Angeles home from a possible overdose. Miller and his struggles with substance abuse has been a topic for several years, but the rapper had seemingly cleaned up his act.

“Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26,” his family said in a statement. “He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time.”

Miller burst onto the scene in the early 2010s and was recognized for his witty wordplay and refusal to stay inside of the box artistically. What was initially recognized as a party rapper was far more than that as Miller constantly paid homage to the golden era of hip hop and utilized jazz influences in his music.

The Pittsburgh rapper’s final album Swimming was heralded for its experimentation and debuted at #3 on the Billboard charts.

We send our prayers and thoughts out to the McCormick family and remember the late rapper with the DJ Premier produced “Face the Facts.”
