Philly Freezer drops off the video for “Primates” with the following message…
When Freeway proclaims “The beast has awoken!” at the outset of his new “Primates” video, you know that it’s about to get live in these visuals. And sure enough, the Philly Freezer takes viewers on a rowdy tour of Amsterdam, and that includes a wild live show and plenty of mobbing in the streets and subways.
Capturing it all is director Ed Jansen (Ruste Juxx, Rockness Monsta), who follows the rapper and his crew to visually represent their trip overseas. As mentioned, this included a clearly bonkers performance for an equally energetic audience along with some time in the studio with Big Ape. And it’s really the best representation of “Primates,” because the track itself is overflowing with vigor, from Freeway’s bravado-centric bars to Big Ape’s brassy instrumental.
After spending time talking about his past with ItsTheReal, Dave East drops yet another banger with the appropriately titled “All Summer.”
Producer !llmind provides a completely different backdrop for Andre 3000’s stellar verse on Frank Ocean’s Blonde album.
King of Chill remixes the Torii Wolf and DJ Premier single “Shadows Crawl” and gives it a little flavor from Jeru’s “Come Clean.”
Dave East drops in with the Rosenthal brothers to talk about everything from a possible career playing hoops, hustling on the streets and finding his way into hip hop.
Dave talks playing big-time NYC basketball, being recruited by major college programs, falling out with coaches over style and playing time, falling into street life, finding his way back to New York with no hopes or dreams, downloading instrumentals online and rapping over whatever, creating a buzz, attracting accolades from peers and heroes, touring all over the world, gaining a huge fan-base, becoming one of the most prolific spitters in the game, and assuring a life for his daughter and family he never could have even imagined just a few years ago.
Remy Ma hops all over Young M.A.’s “Ooouuu” and gives the song its own flavor.
It’s a political royal rumble as El P and Killer Mike join DJ Shadow on “Nobody Speak” off of Shadow’s recently released The Mountain Will Fall. In the video, both sides of the political spectrum throw down with fists and it’s pretty much what you would expect on an episode of House of Cards.
“It’s such a dope video,” Killer Mike told Mass Appeal. “It’s what I really wish Trump and Hillary would just do and get it over with…And even in that fight I think Hillary would win – and that’s s not an endorsement.”
