Tim Westwood has been doing his thing lately with yanking some vintage freestyles out of his personal digital vault. This one in particular should resonate with any hip hop head who adored the Rawkus era as the 2001 versions of Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch and Last Emperor (who had just signed with Aftermath) bless the mic with a freestyle over Erick Sermon’s “Music” instrumental.

ZUBZ FEAT. SKYZOO & PHAROAHE MONCH – DOCTOR GOODLUNGS

South African producers Mizi Mtshali and Inyambo “Nyambz” and Zambian emcee Zubz have been hard at work putting together a Nina Simone tribute project titled Last Letter to Nina: A Tribute To The High Priestess of Soul. Here’s a single that features Pharoah Monch and Skyzoo joining Zubz with a sample of Nina’s “Funkier Than A Mosquito’s Tweeter” titled “Doctor Goodlungs.”

PHAROAHE MONCH FEATURING PHONTE – HOME

Over the weekend, Pharoahe Monch dropped the Lost In Translation mixtape (which you can download here)and defined it as “a retrospective of songs about the pursuit of love, love lost and regained, and it’s beautiful emotion journey.” One of the standout cuts from the album features Phonte and is titled “Home.” Check it out and then get the mixtape.
