Nova Scotia’s ChanHays has been teasing us with bangers for weeks and now delivers “The Creepy” EP featuring the likes of Skyzoo, Guilty Simpson, Joell Ortiz, Fashawn, Bodega Bamz and more. Hit play on the seven song project and cop it if you like what you’re hearing.
ChanHays blessed us with his album Here last year and the Nova Scotia producer keeps things rolling in 2018 with “Brooklyn” alongside Skyzoo and Joell Ortiz.
Skyzoo’s latest album In Celebration Of Us, is a brilliant piece of work that meshes dope beats with splendid rhymes. The video for “Baker’s Dozen” featuring Raheem Devaughn finds the duo lamenting over what happens when a drug transaction goes left.
Norway producer ChanHays dropped an exceptional project last year with Here that many people probably slept on. But the producer stays at it to get the word out as he drops a video for the Skyzoo assisted song “Of The Essence (Time).”
After hearing Skyzoo pay homage to Fredro Starr’s Bamboo from “Strapped,” the group reached out to the emcee to get him on their song “I’ma F*ckin Rockstar.”
“We linked with Skyzoo after we heard the song ‘Bamboo‘ on his Peddler Themes EP; he was basically paying homage to my character in the movie Strapped,” Starr told XXL. “The next day we reached out, ‘I’ma F*ckin Rockstar’ was a perfect fit for Skyzoo! People can expect boom-bap mixed with guitars, but it’s what people wont expect that makes this album dope!”
Listen to it now.
Prior to the release of Skyzoo’s In Celebration Of Us album, the New York emcee gives us a taste of his forthcoming project with a sampler that premiered on Billboard.
“On this album, I wanted to tap into the present, more so than any other album of mine as far as full projects. Music of the times is the best way to describe it” Skyzoo commented to Billboard. “From cultural appropriation and gentrification to police brutality and the irony of motives behind bigger motives, it’s an album that explores who we are and why we are where we are in society, as a people. What’s been done to us and what we’ve done to ourselves, mainly out of confused necessity, all while celebrating us in the process. Conceptually, this is Ta-nehisi Coates meets Chappelle’s Show, The Autobiography of Malcolm X meets Black-ish, the case of Sandra Bland meets the birth of Air Jordans. It’s intense, and it’s beautiful. I’m honored to be able to give my take on our story”.
